911 Turbo Carrera - 3.6L DME (1976)

This '76 911 came to us from San Diego for a bit of restoration & upgrades. The plan was to fit the car with a '95 993 3.6L DME engine featuring A/C & heat, along with upgrading the suspension & brake system to hang on the new found power plant.

The Porsche 3.6L DME engines are an excellent choice for conversions into the older 914 or 911 chassis. These 3.6L engines are found in the 964 from ’90-’94 ( 250hp – 228 lb/ft ), and 993 from ’95-’98 ( 272hp – 243.2 lb/ft ). We often find the early 2.0L, 2.2L, 2.4L, 2.7L, 3.0L and 3.2L engines are “tired” and with the increasing parts costs and rebuild labor expenses, this begins to approach that of the 3.6L engines. These engines offer several advantages with regards to reliability, power and future service. The DME (Digital Motor Electronics) used to operate the engines ensures excellent hot or cold running with increase efficiency and lower emissions output. These engines are equipped standard with twin plug ignition systems & knock sensing. We have all of the conversion parts you should need to simply install these and other engines into your chassis. Our rear 964 4 piston brake caliper conversion with late 930 rotors

These old school BBS wheels were originally 16" and you know about tires these days ? The customer wanted keep with the historic BBS 3 wheel piece look, so here is the answer. We started by restoring the centers to a gloss black powder coated finish for the look and durability. We sources the 17” wheel half’s direct from BBS Motorsports. We decided to optimize the wheel fit so we increased our wheel half width’s were we could. The fresh BBS 17” wheels were then fitted with the Michelin Pilot Sport tires.
These old school BBS centers use a special lug nut that uses a thrust washer, these were a bit tired so we cleaned them, glass beaded them tumbled them & re-plated them cad. white (silver).
Overall the wheels and tires really look great, and the tires give the car a very compliant ride on the street.

This unit updates the original bearing hub and dual belt assembly to a simpler, single belt system. The united hub under-drives the alternator, reducing drag and allows the engine’s air cooling impeller to operate at the same speed for increased engine efficiency. Ideal use for performance engines running higher RPM ranges. The original equipment fan hub features a wearable bearing allowing the alternator and fan operate at independent speeds. The increased alternator speed is intended to produce additional current for electronic accessories. Higher alternator output may assist street models with additional electronic accessories. Recommended for high performance street, or motorsport use.
